PFG Gardeners Feed Hungry

Despite the long spring and late start to summer, the PFG garden is producing much needed food for the hungry.
Inspired by the "Plant a Row for the Hungry" program, PFG created the garden to help feed the hungry. The produce grown is donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
An old pool at the downtown Spokane office serves as an enormous raised planting bed for the site of the garden.
Plants for the garden come from colleague and local nursery donations.
Direction on planting is given by master gardener Carol Williams, our Payne University Director and Human Resources for Spokane and Boise.
"Last year we got a late start (July), and we still grew and donated about 25 pounds of food. We look forward to exceeding that in 2011," said Carol.
None of this would be possible without the fourteen colleague volunteers that tend the garden.
The gardeners include: Adam Benson, Anita Koch, Beth Engelhard, Briana Cokusis, Carol Williams, Caryn Clinesmith, Gerry Bulger, Jeff Wallace, Jenel Emahiser, Kathi S. Gehrs, Kele Yake, Rylie Dodd, Scott Simmons, and Theresa Crowley.
"Thanks so much for all the volunteers are doing in the garden, for Second Harvest and our community. I hope everyone is having as much fun as I am," added Carol.
