Holiday Parties and Safe Driving

Tis' the season for holiday parties with colleagues, family and friends. While you're there partying it's important to have a merry time, but, when it's time to go home it's also important to be prepared.
Have a plan when it comes to winter driving and especially, if you choose to drink alcohol at the party.
Put simply, people who drink and drive put everyone on the road in danger. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in three motor vehicle crashes is alcohol related. Choose not to drink and drive and help others do the same.
Some tips for safe and happy travels:
- - Have a transportation plan.
- - Designate a nondrinking driver when with a group.
- - Call a friend or taxi for a ride.
- - Don't let friends drink and drive.
- - Choose not to binge drink and help others not to do it.
- - Buckle up every time, no matter how short the trip. Encourage passengers in the car to
- buckle up, including those in the back seat.
- - Pay attention to the weather.
- - Check your tires and make sure you have chains if there's any chance of needing them.
- - Keep your fuel tank full. Exercise good vehicle maintenance.
- - Keep a survival kit in your vehicle that includes: flashlight, batteries, blanket, snacks, water,
- gloves, boots, first-aid kit, ice scraper, shovel, jumper cables, road flares, etc.
- - If you're stranded, be safe, stay in your car with the flashers on, and call for help.
