Community Connections

There are three "C's" in which Payne Financial Group is based upon.  Clients. Colleagues. Communities.  Those three words are forefront in each employee's mind daily...and PFG is proud to employ some of the most philanthropic and dedicated community members in each of the cities we have offices.  Choose any city listed below for a description of what PFG employees are doing to make their community great.

Spokane, WA

Fall 2011

In Fall 2011, Spokane colleagues volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, the Second Harvest Food Bank, and the YWCA. At the YWCA, they cleared out and re-arranged an 1800 square foot storage room. They took down and stored outdoor furniture, moved boxes and other items, steamed and preped clothing for My Sister's Closet (gently used professional clothing for women returning to the workforce) and sorted over 600 pairs of shoes - by season and size!  It was a wonderful day, and the staff at the YWCA couldn't say thank you enough times to all the volunteers!

Summer 2011

At Payne Financial Group we take our vegetables seriously. Our downtown Spokane office occupies the second floor of a renovated hotel, which was turned into an office complex. During one company-wide picnic held on our outdoor deck, which used to house the hotel pool, employees had the idea of turning the area into a garden. Trees and shrubbery were already planted in the space, but were becoming overgrown with weeds and neglect. PFG's Carol Williams is a Certified WSU Master Gardener when she came to PFG, so she was able to provide the how-to and knowledge to get the project started.

PFG joined forces with 2nd Harvest, Spokane's local food bank, and took advantage of their "Plant a Row" program to combat hunger. All produce and vegetables that PFG's office garden yields is then donated to 2nd Harvest. Last year was our inaugural year with the garden, and we donated 23.5 lbs of produce to the food bank.

Williams describes the office garden simply, "We're giving back and having fun doing it". The effort has been a great team building exercise for the office, and many employees can be found picking peas during their lunch hour or weeding early in the morning before starting their workday. Currently 14 people participate in the garden, and several had never planted or grown anything previously. The PFG Spokane office spends their annual Community Day donating their time at 2nd Harvest, so this project has been a lovely fit to the continuing philanthropy they already provide the food bank.

The 2011 harvest yielded 154 pounds of produce that was donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.
