Warm weather, sun, the actual sight of grass — this must mean that spring has finally arrived. This also means it is time to get the summer toys ready to play with. From boats and Jet Skies to camper-RVs, our Western states offer many great recreational opportunities.
When it comes to preparing your boat for the summer waves, it is important to make sure everything is in seaworthy condition. Here are a few key areas to review:
- Inspect the interior and exterior of the boat for problems that might have occurred while it was winterized and stored.
- Make sure the batteries are completely charged and in good working condition.
- Check all electrical systems and electronics for proper operation.
- Check the engine to make sure it is operating smoothly.
- Check the trailer to ensure the tires are properly inflated and the boat is properly secured.
- Make sure all your safety equipment, including life jackets, is on board.
Now that the boat is ready to go, let’s take a look at the RV:
- Inspect the interior and exterior for problems that might have occurred while winterized and stored.
- Check the batteries and electrical system to ensure everything is in proper working order. This includes the AC unit, outlets, lights and sliding unit.
- Check the propane system. Make sure there are no leaks in the line and that propane units, such as the refrigerator, are working properly.
- Check the leveling system to ensure it is in proper working condition.
- Check the tires, make sure they are properly inflated.
It’s almost time to head to the lake for some boating and camping, but first you need to double check that you have the proper insurance coverage. When it comes to insuring boats and RVs there are various options available.
A few questions to ask yourself about your insurance needs before hitting the water and roadways:
- Will you will be pulling water skiers with your boat?
- Do you have adequate water-skier liability?
- Do you have uninsured boaters liability coverage?
- Will friends be driving your boat or personal watercraft?
- Do you have special equipment on your boat (i.e., fish finders, fishing poles, GPS systems, water skis, etc.)?
- Do you have roadside assistance for your motor home?
- Do you need additional personal property coverage for your motor home?
A check in with your insurance agent should be on your pre-adventure checklist to make sure you have the right coverage mix for your recreational season.
Now it’s time for fun. Have a safe and enjoyable spring and summer!
